Sourcing the Right ATM Paper Rolls for the Sake of Customers’ Health and Safety
The need for rolling cash is a necessity for most people who use the tens of thousands of automated teller machines (ATMs) across the country to withdraw the much needed cash. The entire process of withdrawing cash from an ATM barely takes a minute, making it outrageously simple as compared to the pre-ATM days when it took at least half an hour if not more. Today, you can withdraw cash up to a certain limit from the ATM in less than a minute and also get a transaction receipt for it. The machine is fitted with a thermal printer that uses ATM paper rolls to print out the detailed transaction receipt. Of course, if you want to withdraw an amount that exceeds the maximum limit allowed by the machine, then you must do it from the bank branch.
The benefit of using thermal printers in ATMs
One major advantage of using thermal printers is that they have eliminated the use of all forms of consumables like ink or ribbons. Of course this advantage is only for direct thermal printers that use chemically coated thermal paper supplied by ATM paper rolls manufacturers. Direct thermal printing uses heat transfer through the printer heads onto the chemically coated thermal paper and produces the print output. The thermal paper rolls are compact and easy to install and they optimize the paper usage by printing right up to the edge of the paper’s margin. This way more efficient and economical than dot matrix or laser printers with their large margins. In fact, these printers aren’t designed for printing point of sale (POS) billing receipts.
Types of thermal paper
There are two main types of thermal paper – one that contains Bisphenol-A (BPA) in the thermal coating and the other that doesn’t contain BPA. It has been proven by ongoing research that BPA is a toxic chemical and is quite harmful to humans who are exposed to it. Therefore, customers who collect the transaction receipt after using an ATM, are directly exposed to the hazardous chemical. They absorb the BPA through the skin of their fingers that hold the receipt. ATM owners must, therefore, focus on sourcing their ATM paper rolls only from suppliers who offer BPA-free thermal paper.
